Richmond plans $600,000 blitz to fix alleys

Currently, the city has just six workers assigned to alley maintenance. The full complement is eight, but two positions are vacant. The city plans to assign an additional 20 workers to alley maintenance on a temporary basis to create four work crews that can focus solely on alleys from April through June.

With much of the city-owned equipment sidelined by maintenance issues — for example, only one out of five motor graders works — the department plans to rent extra machinery for the project. Link
